Talents for Maritime
New release with insight into the maritime industry and career opportunities
from Schiff und Hafen:
The career magazine "Talents for Maritime" presents the maritime sector with the areas of shipbuilding, supply industry, shipping, ports and offshore technology and introduces the associated job profiles and career opportunities. The focal points include detailed information on the wide range of study and training opportunities as well as selected company and university portraits in which potential employers and institutions introduce themselves to the talents of tomorrow.
"Talents for Maritime" supports teenagers and young employees in their choice of career as well as in further education and is distributed to career information centers, universities and further education institutions, among others. In addition, readers of the maritime trade magazine Schiff&Hafen and the weekday German shipping newspaper THB - Täglicher Hafenbericht receive the latest issue of the publication.

Successful participation at the Worldwide Ferry Design Competition
International students have designed a ferry for the Pasig River as part of the module Team Project EMship at our chair. With this design they achieved an excellent 2nd place at the Worldwide Ferry Design Competition! Be amazed by the teaser video created by the group:

About the Chair
Shipbuilding can look back on a long history at the University of Rostock: the Technical Faculty of Shipbuilding was founded in 1951 as the first engineering faculty at a 'non-technical' university in Germany in order to educate the necessary specialists for the regional shipyards. The education began in the summer semester of 1951 for 97 students.
70 years later, our courses in the bachelor's degree program of Mechanical Engineering and the master's degree program of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering as well as the international master's degree program in Advanced Ship and Offshore Design (EMShip) support our students and equip them with the fundamental skills to face the current and upcoming challenges in the industry as future specialists.
As a partner in national and international research networks, we work together closely with companies and other research institutions on solutions for the maritime future. The portfolio of our research topics includes:
- Efficient tools for the design phase
- Innovative concepts for ships and maritime systems
- Safe, sustainable shipping and marine operations
- Digitalization and decision making support
- Technologies to avoid, prevent and resolve maritime pollution (oil, marine litter, munitions waste)
