Study Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the University of Rostock

Course of study

At the University of Rostock, the study of marine engineering is not offered as an independent bachelor's degree program. However, interested students can choose a specialization in marine engineering in the bachelor's program in mechanical engineering. In the master's degree, however, there is a stand-alone course of study. In addition, students who are interested in international study can apply for the "Advanced Ship and Offshore Design" program (EMship), thus earning two master's degrees in parallel. The Master's degree should be regarded as the standard degree! Thus, the study of ship and offshore engineering at the University of Rostock is divided into the following sections:

Bachelor "Mechanical Engineering" with a specialization in marine engineering:

Entry requirement: Abitur or equivalent
Duration: 6 semesters (3 years)
Scope of studies: 180 credit points
Degree: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

Master "Marine and Ocean Engineering:

Entry requirements: good bachelor's degree in marine engineering or comparable
Duration: 4 semesters (2 years)
Scope of studies: 120 credit points
Degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.)

International Master "Advanced Ship and Offshore Design" (EMship):

Entry requirements: good bachelor's degree in marine engineering or comparable as well as very good English skills
Duration: 4 semesters (2 years)
Scope of studies: 120 credit points
Degrees (double degree): Master of Science of the University of Liège + Master of Science of the 2nd university
